:: goodbye, 2006 ::

For the past few years, I've spent a bit of time on the 31st with my journal and my Bible, looking back to look forward. And I like lists, so here's this year's.

A Few Things That Sum Up
1. Trusting God is one of the first, and most difficult, things I've ever been told to do.
2. Other people's ideas of a beautiful thing might end up hurting quite alot, might be nothing like they thought it would be.
3. The best friends are the ones who are still there next year.
4. Reading the Bible, really actually reading it, changes my life.
5. Disillusionment undoes me.
6. Best friends don't always make the best roommates, but roommates can make the best friends.

:: travel ::

I like airports.

After they've made you take off your belt and shoes, throw away all liquids and other possible explosives, suddenly you are released into this safe zone. Everyone around you is a fellow traveller, just as worried about unattended baggage as you are. There is a leveling, and alot of strangers talking to strangers. I like it.

I had forgotten.

I'd forgotten that it's upstream I'm swimming, and that means my limbs will ache. I'd forgotten things are broken here, decaying, dying, and I'm breathing in the stench.

But I remember now. With one swift kick to my ideals, the amnesia's running down my cheeks and I can see again.

Well, I guess I'm a real photographer now. I just got a call from the Longs photo department saying they wouldn't print my pictures because they look "professional." I have to go in tomorrow and prove I took them before they'll print. I suppose that's an inconvenience, but one that comes with a nice little pat on the back. Thanks, Longs.
