:: kierkegaard says it so much better than me ::

"Our age is without passion. Everyone knows a great deal, we all know which way we ought to go and all the different ways we can go, but nobody is really willing to move."

"Today's Christianity is a matter of being elevated for an hour once a week as in the theater. It is now used to hearing everything without having even the remotest notion of doing something."

question: is he reading my journal?

Thanks for both of those quotes. I was talking about that very issue with my mom last night. What is passion without movement? I would guess it is as valuable as good intentions without actions. Worthless...

I don't know if Kierkegaard is reading it (frankly I have my doubts), but I'm now reading the online version. Thanks for the link.

I've never read Kierkegaard, but I'm buying something of his today, on your implicit recommendation.

Kierkegaard, 1813-1855

Sadly, we missed him by more than a century. But welcome! :) I'm glad you're getting one of his books. You're not buying, by any chance, Provocations? If so, I will be down one parting gift.

I was attempting irony about Kierkegaard - guess I missed. I picked up "The Essential Kierkegaard" today - I didn't notice whether it included Provocations, but I'll check on it.

I definitely caught the irony and was just adding to that my lament that he couldn't be joining us today. If you have The Essential Kierkegaard then I think there's still room in your life for Provocations... more on that later.

I am commenting to say that thanks to the writing of James Pearson and Mandy Gervasi, I am now obsessed with reading online journals. Both of you guys thrill me with your words. I think there must be a secret author in me, because many people could be thrilled with the content of a good author, but I am taken not only with the content but with the WORDS that are chosen. Maybe one day it'll come out, but for now I shall continue in my newest obsession. I will read your words. I love words! What kind of a person says that?

P.S. Bonnie, if you for some reason read this, I want to read your online journal too! Honestly, I thought that people just talked about "junior high" topics in online journals, but now that I've found you guys, GAME OVER!
